Can you believe how fast this year is passing us by? The year 2020 has already brought us some great poetry collections in the first few months, but there are still so many collections to look forward to releasing later on this calendar year, especially some really awesome collections by women. So, save this post or jot these down for your reading wish-lists. You surely won’t want to miss out on these!
Swimming Lessons by Lili Reinhart – May 5th
Lili Reinhart is an actress who is best known for her depiction of Betty Cooper in the drama series Riverdale. Her debut poetry collection will be dropping at the beginning of May and covers topics such as fame, love, heartbreak, and mental illness (See the press release for more details). So often, we feel like we know celebrities from the roles they play on tv or from their social media presence. But, this book will give readers and fans a chance to get to know Reinhart for who she is behind the scenes and between takes. I am looking forward to reading more about her story through her poetry and seeing how her personal experiences have shaped her. I know that she will have relatable insights for all of us, and I can’t wait to delve into this one!
Keep Moving: Notes on Loss, Creativity, and Change by Maggie Smith – May 5th
Maggie Smith took the internet by storm when her poem “Good Bones” went viral a couple of years ago. Her new book, made up of primarily quotes and essays, is meant to be an encouragement for anyone going through a period of change or transition. She writes of loss and healing with a wisdom that only comes with experience. She wants to validate the deep hurts that we all experience while also guiding us through to the hope on the other side of them and the hope of what can be created with them. Endorsed by author Glennon Doyle, this is sure to be a collection that speaks to the soul of its readers and connects with the hearts of everyone who buys it.
In The Field Between Us: Poems by Molly McCully Brown and Susannah Nevison – June 2nd
This poetry collection is an exchange of poetic letters between two friends with disabilities as they discuss the challenges that they both face on a daily basis. It is a beautiful glimpse into the complexities of living life with a disability and how it has impacted their sense of belonging in the world around them. I am so excited to read this collection and to learn about their story and their friendship with one another. Their shared experiences and unique perspectives are sure to weave together in perfect harmony for a beautiful, one-of-a-kind reading experience for all. This book, at its core, is a tale of resilience and friendship, and I can’t wait to read it!
Confessions of Her by Cindy Cherie – October 6th
This is a debut poetry collection for Cherie which focuses on overcoming heartbreak and loss. So many of us search for love and belonging through another person, and the author explores the complexity of this in her poetry and prose. This collection is sure to explore the myriad of emotions that surround love and loss and how we find ourselves through these experiences. With relatability and thoughtfulness, Cherie reminds the reader of the importance of finding love within. Be sure to keep an eye out for this one in the fall!
