The Living Voice: Building a Poem’s Unique Speaker with Yerra Sugarman (via Zoom)

This exciting poetry workshop will explore the often mystical element of voice. Participants will analyze and discuss how voice can excite and engage readers. They will also spend time generating poems focusing on voice as a connective tissue. Tickets are available for purchase at $124 each.
Pandemonium at the Library: An Evening of Poetry, Music, and Art at the Jefferson Market Library
Monday, May 22 at 6 p.m.
Presented by Puma Perl, Pandemonium at the Library brings together artists and enthusiasts of many mediums for a night of conversation and discovery. In addition to music by Puma Perl and Friends, featured poets include Nancy Mercado, Jane Ormerod, and Nicca Ray. Additional photographers, writers, and independent presses will be participating as well.
50th Anniversary of Hip Hop: Hip-Hop Open Mic Hour at the Harry Belafonte 115th Street Library
Tuesday, May 30 at 2 p.m.
Poets, wrappers, singers, comedians, and spoken word artists are all encouraged to participate in this exciting open mic night. This celebration of hip-hop pays homage to the cultural movement and its rich legacy of art, culture, and music in New York and worldwide. All levels of experience are welcome.
Poetry Discussion: “O” by Zeina Hashem Beck at the Jefferson Market Library

This in-person poetry discussion book has selected Lebanese poet Zeina Hashem Beck’s 2022 collection, “O,” for this month’s meeting. Themes of faith, family, aging, and mental health are analyzed in not just odes and triptychs, but also ghazals (a traditional Arabic lyric form). Copies of the collection are available for pick up at the Jefferson Market Library circulation desk.
